- Temple will only award credit as indicated on the chart provided here. Exams that are not listed are not accepted for credit at Temple University, even if the student received credit for the exam at a previous institution.
- Credit for CLEP examinations posted on transcripts from other institutions will not be used to update a student's academic record at Temple. It is the responsibility of the student to request a copy of the scores be sent directly to the Admissions Office (Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Temple University, 1801 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122.)
- Currently, all literature, history, and political science CLEP exams require an additional Temple essay in order to receive credit for these tests at Temple. For the CLEP credits to be posted to the student's academic record, the student must have both the minimum score on the CLEP test and a pass on the essay.
- Individual schools and colleges may have limitations on the type and number of CLEP credits that can be applied to a degree. Table of School and College specific policies
- CLEP credits completed prior to matriculation at Temple will count towards the 45+ GenEd designation and will apply to the General Education program according to the required course indicator (RCI).
- There is no transcript processing fee to post CLEP credits completed prior to matriculation; these credits are considered part of the student's initial admissions credentials.

- Students must obtain permission through the completion of the Request to Take CLEP Exam for Credit form from their academic advisor prior to taking a CLEP exam.
- Students admitted with 60 or more credits in transfer will not be approved to use CLEP credits earned after matriculation to fulfill degree requirements. (See Policy 02.10.18)
- Students admitted with less than 60 credits in transfer are allowed to transfer credit for two summer or special session courses (up to a maximum of 8 credits) taken elsewhere toward their Temple baccalaureate or associates degree. CLEP credits count toward the two courses taken elsewhere limit. (See Policy 02.10.18)

- If a student has previously earned a letter grade in the same course at Temple or has previously completed more advanced courses in the same field.
- For CLEP tests which are repeated.
- CLEP credits completed while matriculated at Temple will not count towards General Education or towards the 45+ GenEd designation.
- Students planning to take CLEP exams after matriculation are urged to do so no later than the semester before they expect to graduate.
